Something I've contemplated.

TheMasterSwordsman - 05/01/08
Well, this I have been contemplating and thinking about for quite a while now. I like the design of this site quite a bit, but something I've been noticing about it: The content (or what little I have on here Smilie) clashes with the design of the site quite a bit. Pages, such as the game's pages, are waaaaaaaaay too large in length, and three columns probably wasn't the best way to go. The top gradient is a little ... cliché as well. So I've been thinking: Is it time for this venerable old design scheme to be put to rest? I've used the gradient-at-the-top, three column design in several incarnations (being the one I made previously, or better known as the suckish version, and then Sephiroth's amazing job at cleaning it up). And since I have a better understanding at PHP, the programming language that runs the raw core of this site (and the thing that enables me to run this site). The rewrite of the site's engine by Sephiroth is also an amazing job by him. But I'm prefacing my statements here. To put it bluntly... this site needs a new design. Oh, come on, I can hear your groan through your modem, stop it! Smilie When I say "new design," I mean something more fresh, clear, and just a bit more ... crystallized. There's something about it that beats me. And that would be how ... slightly bland (not directed at you, Sephiroth, you cleaned it up quite nicely) design I went for in the first place. Yes, Sephiroth did make it look a helluva lot better. But it's just become ... like I said, bland over the months of running this site. I have grown tired of looking at it and a lot of people are simply thinking "been there, done that" about it. It's just not working as well anymore. I think we need a change here. If you ask me, it needs to be a bit more sleek, a bit more crystallized looking, somewhat smaller fonts, two columns, and maybe a few tweaks here and there. So as you can see, I'm busy with redesigning this site. Again. (*crowd groans in the background*)

I'll be doing something as well that some of you will appreciate.

  1. I'm bringing back the gallery.
  2. Articles will be saved and your comments will.
  3. The forums will be wrapped in with the main site.
  4. With the forums, site, and gallery merged into one, logging into the forums, main pages, or gallery means logging into the entire site all at once.
  5. Using these new abilities, the staff can promote users to moderators, post articles to the main page, and add fanart, all in one place.
  6. You can submit your fanart, fanfiction, and just about everything else simply by registering.
  7. You can keep a friends list, an ignore list, keep a TriforceTour favourites list of all of your favorite links from this site.
  8. You can even gain access to new features on the site as you add to it (i.e. posting a certain amount on the forums, submitting a certain amount of fanart, writing x amount of chapters of fanfiction, etc) and each "achievement" is presented like it is in Super Smash Bros. Brawl (*SPOILER*The big wall of little squares with shadows of trophies and such that you can unlock*END SPOILER*).

  9. So far, that's all the staff have been able to devise for the new version of the site, when it comes, it'll be a lot easier to enjoy this site--we guarantee it or your money back. Anyways, just thought I'd put out what I've been up to.

Early morning update!

TheMasterSwordsman - 04/25/08
Extremely early! I'm going up to Rock Hill, SC for the weekend, but I'll still be able to get online, so don't worry. This update is just to signify I finally finished Chapter 5 of Legend of the Triforce (Sorry it took so long. Smilie )

Finished the NES PC.

TheMasterSwordsman - 04/20/08
I finally built it correctly, but there are a few quirks here and there (for example, the power and reset switches function flawlessly, but the power LED was poorly wired on my part). I'm devoting today to fixing those problems, and mounting everything inside of the case. Then, as soon as I find my camera battery-to-AC adapter, I can "finalize" the disc and prepare Pictobox Episode 1 to be published. In other words, we're so close I can taste it. Smilie
